Description/Blazon

SHIELD

Azure, an anchor Or interlaced with two arms in armour fretted Proper, the hands
grasping a line also Gold and passing through  the anchor ring.


CREST

On a wreath of the colors Or and Azure issuant out of flames of fire Proper charged with three mullets in fess of the first, a demi-lion Or armed and langed Gules, and gorged with a collar of the second bearing two mullets Argent, the lion grasping a ship's rudder Proper.

Symbolism

SHIELD

The arms in armour suggest defense and by their positioning allude to the ship's name. The arms, when conjoined with the anchor, recall the ship's mission to keep the fleet afloat. Gold and blue are the colors traditionally associated with the Navy.


CREST

The lion, a symbol of courage, grasps a ship's rudder referring to the difficult and often hazardous salvage work performed by the ship. The three stars on the flames refer to the three wars in which the first USS GRAPPLE served. The stars on the collar stand for this ship , the second to be named USS GRAPPLE.
